I think a 10-team playoff is a better solution. Admit the 6 BCS conference champions and 4 at large teams. The 6 conference champions would be given a bye through the first round, making the 4 at large teams play the first week. A 12-team playoff where only the top four receive a first round bye would also work, although then you'd have to go to the rankings in order to determine the top 4 conference champions. A 16-team playoff simply seems too big, especially for those BCS conferences that already have a first round playoff in the form of a championship game. And does anyone really think a 7-5 Sun Belt champion deserves to be in an elite playoff?!? The first time a Reggie Bush or Glenn Dorsey gets injured in the first quarter of a blowout to a crappy mid-major you'll be hearing calls for reform again!
